
Bulldog Softball Returns to SEC Play with Weekend Series at Ole Miss

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Mississippi State softball team returns to Southeastern Conference action this weekend as it travels to Oxford, Miss., for a three-game series with the Ole Miss Rebels. The two teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday before closing the set with a 1 p.m. first pitch on Sunday.

The Bulldogs trek to the northern part of the state 17-11 overall and 1-2 in SEC play. State defeated Southern Mississippi 14-4 in Hattiesburg Wednesday night. The Dawgs' lone SEC action came March. 9-10 when they took one of three games from then-No. 19 Tennessee.
Head coach Jay Miller's squad looks to extend its 28-17 lead in the series. Mississippi State has won eight of the past 11 meetings going back to 2009, including sweeps of the past two regular-season SEC series.
State heads to Oxford batting .315 as a unit after posting a season second-most 14 hits in Wednesday night's win over the Golden Eagles.
Three-time all-American Chelsea Bramlett continues to pace the Bulldogs at the plate this season. The Cordova, Tenn., native ranks second in the SEC in batting average (.522) and hits (47) while topping the league in stolen bases with a 36-for-36 mark.
Bramlett has now successfully swiped a school-record 44-straight bases going back to last season. She enters the weekend 10 hits and three runs shy of second on MSU's career charts in the respective categories.
Sophomore Ka'ili Smith is the Dawgs' second-leading hitter with a .407 average. The Kapolei, Hawaii, native has belted a team-leading seven home runs, and her 32 RBI are the second-most in the league.
In the circle, State has been paced by redshirt sophomore Misty Flesher and freshman Kylie Vry. Flesher picked up the victory Wednesday night in Hattiesburg to run her record to 7-4. The Lone Grove, Okla., native has allowed 47 runs, 36 earned, while striking out 36 over a team-high 66.0 innings.
Vry leads the Dawgs in strikeouts with 39. The Des Moines, Iowa, native has surrendered 38 runs, 33 earned, over 58.2 innings so far this season.
The Bulldog pitching staff will face an Ole Miss lineup that has hit .289 en route to leading the Rebels to a 16-12 record. UM sits at 3-4 in the SEC after dropping a pair of midweek games at LSU.
All-American Lauren Grill paces Ole Miss with a .475 batting average, four home runs and 18 RBI. Texas transfer Brittany Barnhill has been a key contributor for the Rebels at the plate and in the circle. In addition to her .277 average and team-leading 15 RBI, she has been the team's top pitcher in the circle with a 7-3 record and 78 strikeouts.
