Bramlett Named SEC Softball Player of the Week

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State senior catcher Chelsea Bramlett's all-tournament effort at the NFCA Leadoff Classic earned her the SEC Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
The conference honor is the second earned by a State player this season as Kylie Vry was tabbed the freshman of the week following the season-opening Bulldog Round-Robin.
Bramlett claimed a spot on the NFCA Leadoff Classic all-tournament team after leading the Bulldogs with a .667 batting average. The Cordova, Tenn., native collected a team-high 12 hits while adding a double, a triple, three RBI and five runs scored. She was also perfect on the bases, swiping all seven attempts to give her 13-straight steals to open the 2010 campaign.
"It's great to see Chelsea receive this honor after the terrific week she had at the Leadoff Classic," Mississippi State head coach Jay Miller said. "She's starting to settle in and play the way we knew she could entering the season."
The Bulldog senior, who leads Mississippi State in career batting average (.441) and stolen bases (159), jumped to second in career on-base percentage (.482) after collecting a .667 mark over the weekend. She also collected the 284th hit of her career, pushing her past former Bulldog all-American for fourth in school annals.
Bramlett closed the weekend by extending her hit streak to 11 games with a perfect 4-for-4 effort in a 9-3 win against Illinois State. She drove in a run, scored twice and stole two bases in Sunday's victory.
She also collected one of her four multiple-hit efforts against Maryland on Saturday, tallying a pair of hits while scoring once. Bramlett tallied a hit and drove in a run against N.C. State after going 2-for-3 and stealing three bases against Hofstra on Friday.
Bramlett opened the weekend by posting three hits, a double, an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base against 20th-ranked Massachusetts.
Bramlett and her Mississippi State teammates return to the MSU Softball Field on Wednesday, hosting No. 4 Michigan at 5 p.m. Admission to all home Bulldog softball games is free.
