Thornton Tied For First As Play Is Suspend At Memphis Women's Invitational

GERMANTOWN, TENN. - After another extraordinary day on the course, the Mississippi State women's golf team was tied for fourth place at the Memphis Women's Invitational in Germantown, Tenn., when play was suspended in the middle of the second round due to darkness.
The Lady Bulldogs posted a first-round score of 307 and finished the second round before sunset with a score of 315. After one day and two rounds, MSU is just eight shots off the tournament lead with a composite stroke total of 623.
Most impressively for the Lady Bulldogs in Germantown Monday was senior Erika Thornton,who posted scores of 71 and 76 to record a 147 to tie for first in the tournament field.
Fellow senior Mallory Batson also had a strong day on the course, tallying a score of 156 and tying her for 20th in the field. Freshman Mary Langdon Gallagher and Esther Huffman followed up the senior duo with scores of 160 and 161, respectively. Gallagher is tied for 35th while Huffman is tied for 39th.
Junior Perry Katherine Furr rounded out the linksters' stellar day with a score of 173.
MSU sophomore Maria Roos is also competing in the tournament as an individual. She is tied for 56th with 164 strokes.
The Lady Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday morning for the final round of the tournament.
The start of the final round will be delayed to allow for the completion of round two from Monday.
