
MSU Places First In Three Events On Last Day Of War Eagle Invitational

AUBURN, Ala. ? Mississippi State's men's and women's track team completed their stay at the War Eagle Invitational on Saturday winning first place in the men's 400-meter dash, 400-meter hurdles and women's 100-meter hurdles.
Dwight Mullings ran a regional qualifying time of 46.61 seconds in the men's 400-meter dash to earn first place and also placed eighth in the 200-meter dash with a regional qualifying mark of 20.85 seconds.
Sophomore Emanuel Mayers also had an impressive showing today winning the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.49 seconds.
"Dwight and Emanuel were our stars of this weekend's meet," MSU coach Al Schmidt said. "We competed against some strong teams today, and the older kids stepped up and did what they needed to do to have a great meet today."
Standout heptathletes Marrissa Harris and LaQuinta Aaron earn first and second in the 100-meter hurdles, respectively. Both earned regional qualifying times with Harris finishing in 13.51seconds and Aaron in 13.69 seconds.
"Marrissa and LaQuinta have made their mark as the favorites for the SEC Heptathlon," Schmidt said. "They are improving in great leaps and bounds."
Freshman D'Angelo Cherry ran another regional qualifying time of 10.38 seconds in the men's 100-meter dash to place fifth.
In the field events, Josh Tucker tied for third in the high jump with a height of 6 feet, 9.50 inches to receive a regional qualifying mark and a personal best. Lady Bulldog Priscilla Gaines was able to improve her personal best in the triple jump with a distance of 39-5.25 to finish sixth.
MSU returns to action next week at Franklin Field for the 2009 Penn Relays.
