Lady Bulldogs Complete Single-Round Competition Of Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic

ATHENS, Ga. - Play concluded Sunday for Mississippi State's women's golf team at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic after just a single round of play due to inclimate weather in the Athens area on Friday and Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs finished in 17th place with a 321 team score.
Junior Gina Sharp led MSU for the second-straight tournament, today finishing tied for 39th overall individually. Freshman Perry Katherine Furr recorded the best team performance of her collegiate career, placing second with an 18-hole performance of 80 and tied for 60th overall. Sophomore Mallory Batson finished three strokes behind Sharp with an 81, while sophomore Erika Thornton and senior Jillian Jones finished at 82 and 87, respectively.
The Southeastern Conference placed two teams in the tournament's top five, with Auburn taking team honors at 299 and 11-over-par. Alabama and Kent State tied for second place by firing a 302 while North Carolina and Ohio State each recorded a team total of 304 to tie for fourth. Alabama's Kethleen Ekey finished three-under-par with a 69 to claim the individual title by a stroke.
MSU will wrap up play heading into the SEC Tournament at the Lady Rebel Intercollegiate at the UM Golf Club beginning this Friday, April 03.
