2009 Bulldog Classic Softball Tournament - Recaps
SIU-EDWARDSVILLE 9, EVANSVILLE 1
STARKVILLE, Miss. - Eight runs over the first two innings propelled Southern Illinois-Edwardsville to a 9-1 win over Evansville in the opening game of the Bulldog Classic at the MSU Softball Field in Starkville.
The win improves SIUE to 9-1, while Evansville falls to 2-3. Whitney Davis paced the Cougars at the plate with a 2-for-3, four-RBI effort. Lindsay Longfellow drove in a pair of runs on two hits, and Nicole Beecher added two hits and scored twice.
Longfellow put SIUE up 1-0 with a base hit through the left side. Davis capped the three-run opening frame with a two-ruin single to left.
Davis and Lauren Zembruski highlighted a five-run second with a pair of two-RBI base hits. Erika Taylor moved to 7-0 on the year as she allowed a run on one hit with three strikeouts in four innings.
Krista Price paced Evansville at the plate, going 2-for-3 and driving in the Purple Aces' lone run. Kylie Wagner suffered the loss in her first decision, giving up eight runs, five earned, on eight hits with three walks over three innings.

SIU-EDWARDSVILLE 8, RUTGERS 0
STARKVILLE, Miss. - Lauren Zembruski drove in a pair of runs, and Kaitlin Colosimo tossed a three-hit shutout as SIU-Edwardsville defeated Rutgers 8-0 in five innings in Saturday's opening game of the Bulldog Classic at the MSU Softball Field in Starkville, Miss.
SIUE improved to 10-1, while Rutgers fell to 0-2 on the campaign.
The Cougars plated a run in the first and broke the game open with a four-run second. Chaleen Rumpf capped the frame with a two-run home run over the wall in left-center. Zembruski drove in another run on a double and Lindsay Longfellow capped the inning with an RBI single through the left side of the infield.
The Cougars added two more runs in the fourth on a Nicole Beecher single and and a throwing error that plated Zembruski.
Amanda Heller, Kate Valiante and Jen Meinheit each collected a hit for Rutgers. Chrissy Yard fell to 0-1 as she allowed five runs on eight hits with three walks over two innings. Noelle Sisco tossed the final 2 2/3 innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on three hits with four strikeouts.

RUTGERS 3, EVANSVILLE 2
STARKVLLE, Miss. - Mickenzie Alden hit a two-out, walk-off single to rally Rutgers to a 3-2 win over Evansville Saturday afternoon at the Bulldog Classic on the Mississippi State campus.
Trailing 2-1 entering its final at-bat, the Scarlet Knights (1-2) sparked the rally with a Brittney Lindley base hit to center. Kim Hodges followed with a single down the line in right field. Lindsey Curran, who had a pair of hits in the game, lined a ball through the left side, scoring Lindley with the tying run. Alden then bounced her second hit of the game, a ground ball up the middle, into center that scored pinch-runner Amanda Shaw with the winning run.
Holly Johnson picked up the win to improve to 1-0. She allowed two runs on four hits with three strikeouts in the complete-game effort. Jennifer McKee fell to 1-3 as she endured the loss for the Purple Aces (2-4).
McKee went the full 6 2/3, giving up three runs on nine hits with five strikeouts.
Four Evansville players collected a hit apiece.
The Purple Aces took the lead in the top of the first as Krista Price led off with a double, moved to third and scored on a wild pitch. The Scarlet Knights answered in the home half, tying the game on a Kate Valiante RBI single to left-center.
Evansville went back up 2-1 in the fifth as Lissa Fehlman doubled and later scored on a Jamie Lindauer sacrifice fly.

EVANSVILLE 2, RUTGERS 1
STARKVILLE, Miss. - Katie Price's RBI single with two outs in the eighth lifted Evansville to a 2-1 win over Rutgers Sunday afternoon in the consolation game Sunday afternoon at the Bulldog Classic on the Mississippi State campus.
Evansville moved to 2-5 on the year, while Rutgers finished its opening weekend of action with a 1-3 record.
Jennifer Stahlhut finished the game 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Purple Aces, while Mandy Craig's two-hit effort led Rutgers.
EU picked up a run in the top of the first on a Stahlhut double to the wall in left-center. Rutgers answered in the third, tying the game on a Craig solo home run.
The defenses held each other in check until Evansville plated the winning run in the eighth.
Jennifer McKee came home with the winning run, and it moved her to 2-3 in the circle as she allowed one hit over the final three innings to pick up the win in relief. Annie Vincelett threw the first five innings, giving up the lone run on three hits with two strikeouts.
Nicole Lindley suffered her second loss in as many appearances, surrendering two runs, one earned, on with 10 strikeouts in the complete-game effort.
