April 18, 2008 | Softball
STARKVILLE, Miss. - The 24th-ranked Mississippi State softball team returns to Southeastern Conference action this weekend, welcoming No. 21 Georgia for a three-game series beginning Saturday at the MSU Softball Field. Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's series finale are both set for a 1 p.m. first pitch at the MSU Softball Field.
Admission to all MSU home softball games is free of charge. All three games of the series will be broadcast on WMSV 91.1 and online at http://www.wmsv.msstate.edu/.
Head coach Jay Miller's MSU squad enters the battle of the Bulldogs with a 35-15 record and 9-10 mark in league play. State will face its fourth consecutive SEC Eastern Division foe in Georgia, moving to 5-3 against teams from the division after sweeping a three-game series from South Carolina in Columbia last weekend.
Georgia also enters the weekend 9-10 in the league. UGA (36-17) moved into a tie with MSU after splitting a mid-week home twin bill with Auburn.
The two teams have been almost even in the head-to-head series, with MState holding a slim 18-16 lead. Georgia took last season's series opener in Athens, but a Jessie Bailey eighth-inning grand slam sparked State as it claimed the series victory and snapped a Georgia 10-game win streak over MSU.
