
State's Harris In Second In The SEC Heptathlon; Men Open Strong In Decathlon

Harris, the Memphis, Tenn.-native, opened the seven-event program by running 13.81 seconds in the 100-meter dash. She posted a career-best five feet, four and a quarter inches in the high jump. In the shot put, Harris had a mark of 37-07 ½ and closed out the day with a time of 24.24.45 in the 200-meter.
Friday's heptathlon will close out with the long jump, javelin and the 800-meter.
In the men's decathlon, MSU's Darryl Brady and Joseph Queen stand fourth and fifth respectively in the two-day event. Brady tallied 3,443 on thru five events, while Queen stands just 20 points back with 3,423. Brady moved into the fourth spot with a clearance of 6-05 ½ in the high jump to score the top-spot in the event. Queen, carded a career mark with a leap of 5-11 1/2 .
It was a great first day, said MSU head coach Al Schmidt. Both groups did well in the multi-events. Hopefully, we can finish it off tomorrow.
The decathlon will resume at 3 p.m. while the heptathlon will get back underway at 4 p.m. at the University of Alabama's Sam Bailey Track Complex.
