MState Falls To Florida In First Round of SEC Tournament; Awaits NCAA Regional Bid

AUBURN, Ala. ?€“ Mississippi State (34-25) was held to just one hit, as the Bulldogs fell to Florida, 3-0, in the first round of the SEC Tournament.
After Stacey Nelson threw a four-pitch first inning, the Gators went to work in the bottom of the inning. Kim Waleszonia led off reaching on Chelsea Bramlett's 18th error of the season, and moved to second on Lauren Roussell's sacrifice bunt. Ali Gardiner then singled to left field, putting runners on the corners. Melissa Zick grounded to third, but Waleszonia broke for home. Jessie Bailey threw home to Blair Hewett, who threw to Courtney Bures for the force out. Kelli Miller gotout of the inning by getting Francesca Enea to ground to short.
Florida opened the scoring in the third. Waleszonia led off with a single, and moved to second on Roussell's second sacrifice bunt of the game. Waleszonia went to third on Gardiner's ground out, Zick singled through the left side, giving the Gators a 1-0 lead. Enea grounded to Miller to end the inning.
MSU got its first hit of the game when Bramlett led off the fourth with a single to right field. She moved to third on back-to-back sacrifices by Hayle Guess and Courtney Bures. But, she was left stranded as Katie Cooley grounded to short, ending the inning.
The Gators increased their lead to 2-0 in the fifth. After Waleszonia flied out to center, Roussell hit Sara Hickerson's 3-2 offering over the left field fence.
In the sixth inning, Mary Ratliff, drew a four-pitch, leadoff walk, and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Kelsey Nurnberg was then called for an illegal pitch, allowing Ratliff to go to third. Ratliff then took off for home, and the ball got away from Hewett, and Ratliff scored UF's third and final run of the game.
Stacey Nelson went the distance for Florida, improving to 29-12. Kelli Miller went four innings, falling to 17-10.
State now waits for the NCAA Regional Selection Show, Sunday at 1 p.m (CT) on ESPNews, to find out if it advances to the 2007 NCAA Tournament.
