William Davis "Dub" Garrett

William Davis “Dub” Garrett, also known as W.D. “Dub” Garrett, played football at Mississippi State from 1944 to 1947 before eventually playing in the NFL.
A native of Dundee, Miss., Garrett earned Second Team All-SEC honors in 1944 as a freshman by both the Associated Press (AP) and the United Press (UP). In 1946, he was named Second Team All-SEC by the AP, and in 1947, he once again earned First Team All-SEC honors by both the AP and UP.
Garrett was a 2nd-round draft pick by the Baltimore Colts of the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) in 1948 and a 3rd-round pick by the Chicago Bears of the NFL. He chose to sign with the Colts and started 14 games as a rookie. He signed with the Bears in 1950 and played just two seasons.
