Robert “Bob” Hartley was a sports publicist for Mississippi State from 1946-1985. Before getting the job, he was a student at MSU as well. He would join the Air force after college in 1942 and was discharged in 1945.
Hartley would be known as an SID for 32 years. In that time, he was a member of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame, the Mississippi Sportswriters Association and the Football Writers Association of America among others.
Hartley was recognized for his contributions to the history of sports in Mississippi by the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame when he was inducted in 1994.
He was married to his wife, Jean, and had three daughters and five grandchildren.
