Mardye McDole was known as one of the most feared receivers in the SEC during his time here at MSU. McDole lettered for MSU for four years, 1977 to 1980, before joining the NFL.

During his time with the Bulldogs, McDole earned first team on the rookie All-American team his first year, and was a three-time All-SEC selection. He led the SEC in receptions and yards per reception in his sophomore season in 1978. He also became the first player in MSU history to reach 1,000 yards that same year. He ended his career with the title of all-time leader in receiving yards and catches.

After his senior season, he was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the second round of the NFL draft. He played with the Vikings for three seasons before retiring. After his time in the NFL, he had short stints in the CFL with Calgary Stampeders, and in the USFL with the Memphis Showboats.

McDole was inducted into the Mobile Sports Hall of Fame in 2015 and recognized as an SEC football legend in 2018. He was also a coach at his high school alma mater for many years.
