- Class:
- 1988
Lorenzo Daniel starred at Mississippi State from 1985-1988 as a staple in the sprints. Daniel specialized in the 200m, setting a collegiate record of 19.87 in the event at the 1988 NCAA Championships.
Daniel was the second man in NCAA history to make four consecutive 200m finals, winning the crown in 1988. This time was also the World U20 record over the distance, broken nearly 20 years later by Usain Bolt.
Daniel earned nine SEC titles in the 100m, 200m, 300yd and 4x100m during his time in college. He also held seven program records by graduation, with the outdoor 200m record still standing. Daniel was the SEC high-point scorer in 1985, earning 20.5 points for State.
