Taylor, a native of Pope, played Football, Baseball, Basketball, and ran Track & Field while at Mississippi State. Earning eight total letters from 1931 to 1933 in Starkville. Awarded as the Mississippi State Athlete of the Year in 1932.
Before transferring to MSU, Taylor would accumulate letters in three different sports during his time at Northwest Community College from 1930 to 1931.
After MSU, Taylor would carve out a career as a High School coach, but also returned to Northwest CC, leading them to win the 1935 Mississippi Valley Conference Football Championship.
