Jerry Jenkins

Jerry Jenkins and his teammate, Larry Fry, were State’s first Black basketball players. He was a two-time All-SEC selection in 1973-74 and 1974-75.
Jenkins became the second player in program history to eclipse both 1500 career points and 500 career rebounds joining Bailey Howell. He finished his career among State’s top 10 in points (1,503 – 3rd), field goals made (603 – 3rd), free throw percentage (80.7 – 4th) and rebounds (543 – 10th).
Jenkins racked up 30+ points on five occasions with a trio of 35-point performances at Samford (Dec. 2, 1974), versus Arkansas (Dec. 4, 1974) and against Florida (Feb. 3, 1975). He put together 10 outings of 20+ points and 10+ rebounds.
Jenkins, a Gulfport, Mississippi native, was honored at State’s SEC Legend at the 2020 and 2023 SEC Tournaments.
