James R. "Jimmy" Webb

Jimmy Webb lettered in the 1972-74 seasons for the Bulldogs at defensive tackle. He started his final two seasons.
Although tackles weren’t recorded during his playing days, Webb was known to make an impact on the defensive side of the ball. It is known he recorded at least 90 tackles during the 1974 season, 55 of those being solo. He also collected at least six sacks for minus 34 yards and had four pass deflections.
Webb brought in numerous honors during the final two seasons of his playing career. He earned First Team All-SEC honors in both the 1973 and 1974 seasons. He was also named to the Academic All-SEC Teams in both seasons and was named a 1973 Academic All-American.
Webb helped lead the Bulldogs to the 1974 Sun Bowl where they earned a 26-24 victory over North Carolina. The victory capped off an impressive 9-3 season for the Bulldogs. Webb received the MVP for outstanding lineman for the Sun Bowl. He then received All-American honors.
Webb was invited to play in the 26th annual Senior Bowl in 1975. He became the fourth Bulldog to ever be taken in the first round of the NFL Draft after the San Francisco 49ers took him with the 10th pick. He went to play six seasons with the 49ers and one with the San Diego Chargers.
