James 'Jim' Ashmore

James (Jim) Ashmore starred at Mississippi State from 1953-57 and was the Bulldogs' first All-American in basketball and the program's first-ever 1,000-point scorer. A third team AP All-American, he earned All-SEC honors as a guard twice and captained the Bulldogs during the 1956-57 season.
Following his college career, Ashmore owned numerous SEC & Mississippi State records. During the 1956-57 season, he set SEC records in points scored (708), field goals made (270), and most made free throws in a game (17).
During his career he set Mississippi State records for career points scored (1,918), points in a single game (45), points in a season (708), made field goals in a season (270), most points per game average in a season (28.32 in 1956-57), best free throw percentage in a season (76.6 in 1956-57), most made field goals in a career (706), most made free throws in a career (506), most points in an SEC season (432 in 1956-57) and most field goals made in an SEC season (160 in 1956-57).
