James E. "Shag" Goolsby

James E. “Shag” Goolsby lettered in Football from 1937 to 1939. Selected by Sports Illustrated as a Player of The Decade.
Goolsby was part of the 1940 NFL Draft where he was selected in the 12th round (105th overall) by the Cleveland Rams. He would go on to play one season with the Rams appearing in eight games in 1940.
Goolsby passed away in 1975. His legacy continues to live on not only at MSU but also throughout Mississippi through his work in education serving as a teacher, principal, athletic director, and superintendent in his tenure.
