Don Scott competed in both football and track and field for Mississippi State from 1914-1917. A staple in the middle distance races, Scott ended his collegiate career as one f the early greats in State history.
Scott took home the half-mile title at both the Western Conference and National AAU Championships, setting event records at both meets in 1916. Scott was thought to be the greatest runner of his time, representing the USA at the Olympic Games in 1920 and 1924, competing in the 800m and modern pentathlon, the first Olympian by way of State.
The student body dedicated the athletic field in his honor, now known as Scott Field at Davis Wade Stadium. Scott served in both World Wars and the Korean War following his athletic career.
