David Smith played football at Mississippi State from 1967 to 1970, earning letters each of his final three years in Starkville.
In his career, Smith caught 162 passes for 2,168 yards and 12 touchdowns. He was also a prolific kickoff return specialist, earning 1,131 yards on 49 returns for an average of 23.1 yards per return.
Smith earned First Team All-SEC honors as a flanker in 1970 after earning All-Sophomore honors in 1968.
Smith was drafted in the 16th round of the 1971 NFL draft by the Cleveland Browns.
