C.S. “Buddy” Myer lettered for the Mississippi A&M Maroons baseball team from 1922-24. Myer made his mark on Mississippi State baseball history in 1924 when he hit what is believed to be to first grand slam in program history, giving the maroons a 6-4 victory over the Ole Miss Rebels.
Myer began his professional career with the Washington Senators in 1925. He played three seasons in Washington before being traded to the Boston Red Sox in 1927. Myer spent the 1927 and 1928 seasons in Boston before returning to Washington, where he remained until his retirement in 1941.
Myer posted a career .303 batting average over his 17 year career. He won the American League batting title in 1935 and was selected to be an All-Star in 1935 and 1937. Myer led the Senators in fielding in the 1931 and 1938 seasons as Washington’s second baseman, where he played for a decade. Among his other accomplishments, Myer led the American League in stolen bases in 1928 and hit over .300 in nine of his 17 professional seasons.
He was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in 1971, the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 1992 and the Ron Polk Ring of Honor in 2024.
