Benjamin Coyte (Red) Vance was the first player in State history to rack up over 20 points per game as a team captain during his senior season in 1951-52 playing for Paul Gregory.
Vance was named an All-SEC Second-Team and an All-SEC Tournament-Team selection during his senior season. He ranked 16th nationally in scoring with 20.5 points per game.
Vance was selected by the Milwaukee Hawks in the 1952 NBA Draft. He was the second player in program history to be drafted by the NBA.
Vance, a native of Conehatta, Mississippi, served his country in the United States Air Force from 1952-54 during the Korean War. He passed away in 2015.
