The Bulldogs took home 35 Top 10 finishes at the Scarlet and White Meet.
Both Track and Field Teams Take First Place in Boston
February 03, 2018 | Track & Field
BOSTON, Mass. – Narrowly trailing entering the final events of the night, the Mississippi State track and field program used strong relay performances to claim victories in the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Meet on both the men's and women's sides on Saturday.
The Bulldog men put up 84 points, while the women scored 80. The two teams combined to win six events and put up 35 Top 10 finishes. In the 4x400m relay, MSU men took second and third, and the women finished second while matching the fourth-fastest time in school history.
"This was a good performance for our team," MSU coach Steve Dudley said. "The records are good. The team is improving, but we're going to run faster."
MSU's men found plenty of success in the 400m and 800m. Five Bulldogs finished in the Top 10 of the 400m. Marco Arop once again won the 800m, improving on his second-fastest time in school history. Arop was followed closely by Dejon Devroe who took third and moved into third place all-time in the event.
The women made their best moves in the 3000m where Antonia Hehr won the event and saw three of her teammates join her in the Top 10. Stephanie Peterson went down in the first 1000m of the first heat and left the track only to return to win the next heat with a personal-best time that was good for 10th place. Rhianwedd Price-Weimer won the mile, while Mia Meydrich finished second.
Tiffany Flynn took home two victories in the 60m hurdles and triple jump. Brianna Smith claimed the weight throw crown, and Alicia Viveros took second in the weight throw.
The Bulldogs are back in action next week at the Tiger Paw Invitational hosted by Clemson and the Husky Invitational hosted by Washington.
