Spring Signee Nordquist Joins MSU Men’s Tennis
January 09, 2018 | Men's Tennis
STARKVILLE, Miss. – With the 2018 dual match season less than a week away, Mississippi State men's tennis head coach Matt Roberts announced the addition of a highly-regarded prospect Tuesday to round out his spring roster.
Arvid Nordquist, from Västerljung, Sweden, signed a National Letter of Intent to enroll early as part of the 2018 signing class as the Bulldogs look to build on the success they have already had through Roberts' first three seasons at the helm.
"Arvid is a perfect fit for our team and culture with his passion for tennis and development," Roberts said. "He has proven his level is ready for the SEC season and he will bring a lot of immediate positive energy to our team. We are extremely excited to get to work with the big Viking."
State, ranked 14th nationally, which made its seventh consecutive NCAA appearance last season and finished the year ranked 18th nationally, will open the 2018 season on Jan. 14, hosting UAB at 1 p.m. at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
Arvid Nordquist
Västerljung, Sweden
6-1 | Right-hander
Arvid Nordquist comes to MSU as a talented young tennis player (ATP 1774). The righty from Västerljung, Sweden, is a very physical player who plays with a lot of energy. Nordquist has a big serve and a lot of power from the baseline. He is very solid on the backhand side and can dictate well with his forehand.
Nordquist on joining MSU: "It seemed like a great opportunity where I could be able to make great advancements in my game of tennis. I also saw it as a great opportunity to move out of home and come to the U.S., where I will meet with a lot of different people from different parts of the world and experience new cultures. Another thing that I found appealing was the fact that I will realize what college life at a good university has to offer and experience."
