STARKVILLE, Miss. – Sophomore quarterback Elijah Staley has been granted his release and will transfer from the Mississippi State football program, head coach Dan Mullen announced on Friday.
"We would like to thank Elijah for his contributions to our football team," Mullen said. "During his time here, he has always been a hard worker and a great teammate. We wish him nothing but the best as he pursues another opportunity."
Staley, a native of Marietta, Ga., played in two games as a redshirt freshman in 2015. He rushed for 18 yards on three carries and completed 3-of-5 passes with one touchdown.
