STARKVILLE, Miss. -- A pair of Mississippi State offensive standouts have received postseason all-star game invitations as senior wide receiver Fred Ross has accepted an invite to the 2017 Reese's Senior Bowl and senior center Jamaal Clayborn will play in the 2017 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.
Ross is the 90th all-time Bulldog to be named to a roster in the premier all-star game in Mobile on Saturday, Jan. 28 (view a list of all-time MSU Senior Bowl participants). The contest will be televised live at 1:30 p.m. CT on NFL Network from Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
Ross is the first MSU wide receiver invited to play in the contest since Justin Jenkins in 2004. Dak Prescott, the starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, won MVP honors in last year's game after completing 7-of-10 passes and one touchdown.
Ross has shattered six school records, including four career records: catches (195), consecutive games with a catch (34), 100-yard receiving games (10) and receiving yards (2,484). This season, he leads the Southeastern Conference in touchdowns (12), and he ranks second in the league in receptions (68) and fourth in receiving yards (873). Ross is tops in the SEC in 10+ yard catches (36). Â
Clayborn will represent MSU at the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl on Saturday, Jan. 21 at California State University Dominguez Hills. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT on FS1.
Clayborn, a native of Jackson, has been a two-year starter at center for the Bulldogs, starting 24 games and paving the way for a dominant Bulldog rushing attack in 2016. MSU has allowed the third-fewest sacks in the league and is putting up 233.2 yards per game on the ground.
Other Bulldogs are expected to receive invites to other all-star games at a later date.
Ross and Clayborn will wear the Maroon and White one final time when MSU takes on Miami (Ohio) in the St. Petersburg Bowl at 10 a.m. CT on Dec. 26 live on ESPN. Tickets for the contest are available now at HailState.com/tickets.
