Wright was selected in the fourth round, 99th overall, in the 2011 NFL Draft by the Seahawks. The linebacker immediately made his presence known as a rookie, starting in 12 of 16 games played and recording 61 tackles and 2.0 sacks. In 2012, he finished second on the team in tackles with 96 and started in all 15 games he played that year. The Olive Branch, Mississippi, native played an integral role in Seattle's first-ever Super Bowl championship in Super Bowl XLVIII. He started in all 13 games played, but despite missing three games, finished fourth on the team with 80 tackles.
The following season saw Wright start all 16 games plus all three postseason outings while leading the stingy Seahawks defense with 107 tackles, helping lead the Seahawks to a second-consecutive appearance in the Super Bowl. He also led his team in tackles a year ago, tallying 116. This season, Wright has started in all nine games played and currently sits second on the team with 77 tackles.
Wright was one of the driving forces behind MSU's defensive success from 2007 to 2010, as he played in 10 straight games during his true freshman season. He worked his way to a full-time starter as a sophomore in 2008, finishing second on the team with 72 tackles. In 2009, he played in all 12 games as a junior, drawing the starting nod in 10 of those games and finishing second on the team with 82 tackles. As a senior, he helped the Bulldogs to their first bowl appearance and victory since 2007—his freshman year—by helping them defeat Michigan in the 2011 Progressive Gator Bowl. The win against the Wolverines also marked the first nine-win season for an MSU team since the 1999 Bulldogs went 10-2. Wright went on to enhance his NFL Draft stock by playing in the 2011 Senior Bowl.
Last weekend, MSU featured Washington Redskin Preston Smith in two locations in Washington, D.C. Last week against the Minnesota Vikings, Smith amassed four tackles and 2.0 sacks. Not only that, he hauled in a one-handed interception--the first INT of his career--and made the sack that sealed the Redskins' 26-20 victory against the Vikings. The defensive end-turned-linebacker was one of the leaders of the MSU defensive unit that helped the Bulldogs reach it's first-ever No. 1 national ranking in school history in 2014.
A total of 12 Bulldogs are currently on active NFL rosters. Another two are on injured reserve and five others are on practice squads. All 19 of them played for Dan Mullen at State.
